TA DAY 24 27th November
Pikiri to Dome Summit
KM’s Walked Today : 25km
KM’s Total : 500
Today started around 7am, an hour later than planned due to a down pour of rain around 5 am. The steep uphill through farming land gave great views of where we had come from. Then it was back into the Forrest. Again it was muddy and slippery and the steep inclines and declines soon took a toll on my knees and ankle. You had to be alert all the time as there were tree roots and rocks hidden in the mud. David and I fell behind from the rest of the team. Around 5pm David and I had to make some decision about our ability to make the summit and the camp spot. David made the decision we couldn’t so we started to look for a camp site. Now the Taj is great for space and for weight, however when trying to find a piece of grass big enough to hold the Taj, in a dense Forrest it becomes a liability. We finally found a grassy knoll that the Taj fitted and so we spent the night on top of a mountain alone and 3.5kms from where we wanted to be.
HIGHLIGHT: Being nearly at the top of a mountain, alone with the man I love.
LOWLIGHT: Not achieving the distance we wanted
Grateful for what we thought was a flat piece of ground to camp. Ended up with my knees bent all night. Grateful for being so exhausted that it didn’t matter I couldn’t straighten my legs. Truly grateful for this amazing adventure.
