Well we completed day 1 and we are both f.......ked. We didn't end up going over the top as the route was closed by police as 2 days ago someone died of hyperthermia. Thank god we didn't . It would have killed us. Have rubbed ourselves from head to toe with magic cream so hopefully won't be sore tomorrow . The scenery was amazing. That was simply the hardest thing I have ever done. Steep uphill in mud for 4.5 hours. Passage peak is a speed bump. Tanya is simply the best, in the pain she was in from her falls she talked me through multiple cramps. But we made it and we are ready for days 2, albeit at the moment we have crashed out in our bunks. Till tomorrow, Bien Camino.
Day one done and dusted and I can honestly say I have never been so grateful to see a church. The Monastery at Roncesvalles was the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen. Beautiful hot showers and a slathering of Arnica cream and I am starting to feel human.
Tonight I am sharing a room with David and 2 very well built young Slovakian men. Living it up on the camino. The mind monsters are having a field day....lots of doubt and questioning of what propelled us to make this journey............ Was it an inner voice questioning our purpose?...... or was it for shits and giggles?? One thing for certain after this journey we will never be the same.
